After performing and teaching for ten years in Boston, Connecticut and New York, I moved to LA where I have been teaching all levels of
ballet to adults since 2007. On my own and in collaboration with other studios, I have staged over two dozen productions including The Nutcracker, Alice in Wonderland, Coppelia and Sleeping Beauty.

I have a passion for nurturing the love of dance in others and I strive to include students with a wide variety of experience in my shows and in my company, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Leigh Purtill Ballet Company.
I believe storytelling is at the heart of everything I do, from my writing to my choreography to my teaching. As an instructor, I like to help my dancers find their own stories to tell, their own characters to explore.

I especially enjoy seeing students blossom into performers.

Leigh's Blog:
Tips for technique, class etiquette, personal philosophy & more
Because so many of my students are new to dance or are returning to ballet after some time or injury, I gear my blog posts toward issues that concern them. As my dancers can tell you, I have a lot of opinions, pet peeves and, visual imagery to share and I put it all on my blog! I also have links to purchase class cards and current workshops, my YouTube channel lessons, and my up-to-the-minute calendar of classes, rehearsals and performances. Explore and enjoy!
